Horticulture Experimental Station of National Committee of Farming of Arm SSR was founded in 1927 and is situated in Merdzavan, Armavir marz. In 1930 it was renamed as Grape-wine-making Scientific Research Station of Arm SSR, then in 1943 it was renamed as Viticulture wine-making Scientific Research Institute of Academy of Sciences of Arm SSR, then in 1949 it was renamed Scientific Research Institute of Fruit-growing of Academy of Sciences of Arm SSR, then in 1956 it renamed as Armenian Scientific Research Institute of Viticulture, Wine-making, Fruit growing of Ministry of Agriculture of Arm SSR. In 1998 it was renamed as . In 2000 it was reorganized as SNCO of the Ministry of Agriculture of RA.
This centre implements the following functions:
the selection of grape and fruit cultivars,
the technology of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks production,
the utilization of wild grape in selection and getting flavoured wines by using wild grapes' inflorescences.
